Teen pregnancy prevention program available

Capacity Builders, Inc. announces Year 5 of the Teen Pregnancy Prevention grant.

This year, Capacity Builders, Inc./Navajo Youth Builders has teamed up with Central Consolidated Schools to provide Navajo youth with the necessary supports and opportunities to enhance their overall academic and social emotional development and prepare them for adulthood without the complications of teen pregnancy and other negative behaviors.

Early data from the program show significant reductions in teen pregnancy among program participants, plus additional improvements in school dropout rates, course failure, and cutting class. Participants also learn the value of giving back to their communities by each working 20 hours on community service-learning projects.

Capacity Builders, Inc. plans to collaborate with other organizations in order to expand the program's efforts in preventing teenage pregnancy. They'll be contacting hundreds of youth-serving organizations across the Navajo Nation to inquire about the possibility of program expansion and adoption.

More information about bringing positive youth development programming to your location, or if you'd like to learn more about volunteer opportunities at Naschitti Elementary and Newcomb High School, is available by contacting Rachel Nawrocki at (505) 326.4245, or by e-mail r.nawrocki@grantwriters.net.
