Softball tourney Oct. 18-20

The first annual Daynen Granger Coed Softball Classic takes place Oct. 18-20 at the Nez Bancroft Softball Field, Rare Metals (five miles east of Tuba city).

The entry fee is $175.

Emergency registration now at south entrance at Tuba City hospital

Tuba City Regional Health Care Corporation's Emergency Department registration and triage station has moved to the south entrance of the hospital.

This check-in point is where patients first sign in and check in to be seen by emergency room staff.

The hospital is located at 167 N. Main St., Tuba City, Ariz. In an emergency, people should call the Navajo Nation Police at (928) 283-3111.

Fitness center open in Kayenta

The Kayenta Fitness Center is a 1,500 square-foot fitness center located on U.S. Route 163, next to the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA) in Kayenta.

The fitness center includes a treadmill and elliptical trainer for aerobic workouts, as well as various weight machines and free weights for strength conditioning. A monthly membership is $15 and a one-time all-day pass is $1.

The center is open Monday through Saturday. Its hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. It is closed on Sundays.

Fall carnival Nov. 1

A fall carnival takes place Nov. 1 from 5-10 p.m. at the Hopi Veteran's Memorial Center in Kykotsmovi off Highway 264, mile post 375.5. Booth space is available with a food handler's card and peddlers permit. More information is available at (928) 734-3432 from 8 a.m.-5p.m.

Miss Western Navajo Pageants Oct. 14-15

The Mini Miss Western Navajo Pageant takes place Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. at the Greyhills High School auditorium for 6-9-year-olds.

The Lil' Miss Western Navajo Pageant takes place Oct. 15, at 6 p.m. at the Greyhills High School auditorium for 10-12-year-olds.

To be eligible for the pageants:

• contestants must be enrolled members of the Navajo Nation with a census number;

• contestants must have knowledge of tribal culture and traditions;

• contestants must be enrolled in and be attending school within the Western Navajo Agency;

• contestants must limit presentations to 10 minutes and two talents; and

• contestants can not be previous winners.

Applications are available at the Office of Dine Youth double wide trailer in front of the Tuba City Community Center.

Applicants with questions can call (928) 283-3022. Applications are due Oct.14 at noon.
