Letter to the editor: Window Rock needs a veterans memorial

To the editor:

I am writing to ask you to join my campaign to raise money to create a "Native Warrior" memorial bronze sculpture monument to honor Native American veterans who have served and sacrificed for their country and to pay tribute to all war veterans.

Our goal is $73,000 to be raised through donations from the community and public.

We must represent those who have gone before us and paid the ultimate price for this great country.

Memorial Day is May 26. Please remember to honor your fallen heroes.

My brother Cpl. Jerry Lorenza Daw was 21 years old at the time he was killed in the Vietnam War on June 8, 1967. He was shot down by a sniper.

I propose setting up a life size statue at the Navajo Nation capitol in Window Rock, Arizona.

The money is the most important issue. I am going to finish this project no matter how long it takes to raise the money.

I really don't mind asking for money when the project is worthy.

Can I count on you to be part of this effort? Please help us with your donation. Whatever you decide to send, please send it today. Your contribution will help us provide the money we need to continue, but without your help it cannot be done.

Your donation is not deductible.

Donations can be made to Floyd Dawson, P.O. Box 231, Tonelea, AZ 86044.

More information is available by calling Floyd Dawson at (928) 401-1390.

Thank you for your generosity.

Floyd Dawson
