WINSLOW, Ariz. - Family, friends, staff and faculty of Winslow High School (WHS) remembered Steve Sartain the evening of July 18 at 7 p.m. The service took place at the WHS Student Union with about 350 people in attendance. Sartain died in an accident involving a deer on Highway 89. One other person was in the car and was severely injured. The two were heading toward Pason from Winslow. The incident occurred early this summer.

The first part of the service was a slide show of Sartain's life as a growing child to adulthood and his family life during his career as a Winslow High School teacher. After the visual presentation, Sartain's Pastor called up friends, acquaintances, co-workers and family members who remembered their times with Steve and his unending generosity.

The service then moved outdoors to the Bulldog football field, where the crowd released a number of balloons honoring Sartain's memory.
