Winslow Bulldogs wrestling team head in new direction with new coach

The Winslow Bulldogs wrestling team are under the direction of new coach Scott Larsen. The season began with a multi-team event in Winslow on Monday, Nov. 19. Teams in the match were Winslow, Holbrook, Tuba City and Chino Valley.

The next meet will also be a multi-team event at Coconino High School in Flagstaff on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 4 p.m. No information is available on which teams will be participating, although it will likely include Flagstaff and other schools in the area.

Much of the 2012-2013 schedule will be held in December prior to the Christmas holidays. The Pat Kenney Invitational Tournament in Holbrook will be a big challenge on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.

Winslow will host another multi-team event on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 4 p.m. with Show Low, Snowflake and River Valley expected to attend.

A junior varsity multi-team event will be held at Show Low on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 4 p.m. with the Bulldog junior varsity participating. A multi-team meet will be held at Blue Ridge High School in Pinetop on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 4 p.m. for both varsity and junior varsity wrestlers.

Winslow will host a junior varsity multi-team meet on Thursday, Dec. 13 with Coconino, Holbrook and Flagstaff expected to attend. That meet will start at 3 p.m.

The Show Low Invitational Tournament will be held on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14 and 15 with times to be determined later.

The final home meet of the 2012 portion of the schedule will be on Wednesday, Dec. 19 when Mingus, Many Farms and Window Rock are expected for a multi-team event at 3 p.m.

The first event of the 2013 portion of the season will be a dual meet at Page with both varsity and junior varsity competition on Wednesday, Jan. 9 a 4 p.m.

Winslow's Doc Wright Invitational, the premier home event of the season, will be on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 11 and 12 with some of the best wrestling teams in the state expected to attend.

The Page Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 18 and 19 are the next to the last regular season event on the schedule.

A varsity and junior varsity dual meet with Fountain Hills is the last home meet of the season on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 4 p.m.

Winslow will also host the Sectional meets on Saturday, Feb. 2 before the state tournament to be held in Prescott on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8 and 9.
