Navajo-Hopi Observer

The Holbrook Roadrunners defeated the Winslow Bulldogs 11-6 in Winslow Feb. 28. The loss left Winslow with a 2-3-1 record for the season. The two rivals are slated to meet again March 13 at Holbrook.

Winslow's game originally slated for Thursday against Blue Ridge at Pinetop has been changed and will be played on April 15.

Coach Art Griffith said the Bulldogs did not play well against Holbrook after playing an excellent game against Flagstaff a day earlier.

Holbrook took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on two singles and an error. They increased the margin to 6-0 in the top of the second on three singles, a triple and a walk. Winslow cut the margin to 6-2 in the bottom of the second on a walk and singles by Jon Bollin and C. J. Chacon.

The Roadrunners upped the lead to 8-2 in the top of the third on two singles, a double and a walk. Winslow got those runs back in the bottom of the frame on a hit batsman and a home run by Sam Setalla to cut the lead to 8-4.

Holbrook scored its final three runs in the top of the fifth on two walks and three singles to lead 11-4. Winslow cut the margin to 11-5 in the bottom of the fifth on singles by Adrian Montoya and Jeff Gonzales. The final run came in the bottom of the sixth on a walk and a single by Colton Corum.

Bollin started on the mound for Winslow and took the loss giving up six runs on six hits and a walk. Two of the runs were unearned. Corum and Matt Cirre worked in relief.

Montoya and Chacon led the Bulldogs at the plate with one for one days. Chacon had a double. Setalla was one for two with a home run. Gonzales was two for four. Corum and Bollin were one for three.
