WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Flagstaff Eagles defeated the Winslow Bulldogs 18-10 in a game played in Winslow on Friday. The win left the Eagles with a record of 2-1 and dropped Winslow to that same 2-1 record.

The loss may have hurt the Bulldogs' playoff hopes and was a game they will look back upon wondering how they managed to play most of the first half in Flagstaff territory and not get into the end zone.

Winslow dominated the first half in everything but the score. They actually led 2-0 before Flagstaff had run a full set of downs. Winslow drove to the Flagstaff six-yard line on its first possession using up nearly half of the quarter before the Flagstaff offense was on the field.

The Eagles held and took over on downs at their six-yard line but saw Winslow take a 2-0 lead when the center snap went over the quarterback's head and out of the end zone.

Winslow drove to the Flagstaff 12 yard line following the kickoff after the safety but lost the ball on downs in the shadow of the goal post.

Flagstaff' got its first memorable moments of eh first half and scored on a 76 yard pass from Kyle Wilson to Dylan Matthews. The kick was blocked and the Eagles led 6-2 at the end of the first quarter.

Winslow drove deep into Flagstaff territory again but fumbled into the end zone giving the Eagles possession at the 20 yard line. There was no scoring in the second quarter either and the half ended with Flagstaff leading 6-2 but Winslow having dominated the game so far.

Flagstaff played much better in the second half and threatened in the third quarter which ended with the score still 6-2 in favor of the Eagles. They had controlled the ball most of the quarter unlike the first half.

The Eagle defense blocked a Winslow punt and recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchdown in the opening moments of the fourth quarter. The conversion pass failed and Flagstaff led 12-2.

Quarterback Kyle Wilson scored for Flagstaff on a two-yard run to give the Eagles an 18-2 lead with just over three minutes left the play. The conversion pass was intercepted but cannot be returned in high school football.

Winslow finally got into the end zone on a five-yard pass from James Martinez to Henry Montiel. A two point conversion pass from Martinez to Akkeem Foster got the Bulldogs with in eight at 18-10 with just seconds over two minutes left to play.

The on-side kick was recovered by Flagstaff and they were able to run out the clock and walk off with the victory.

Winslow will play the Ganado Hornets at Ganado on Friday in their next contest before returning home for their Homecoming Game against the Chinle Wildcats.
