The Arizona Department of Education (ADE) named Tuba City High School (TCHS) an education model and guide for other high schools with Career Technical Education (CTE) programs.
U.S. Department of Education and ADE officials recently visited TCHS. The school won a grant in August of 2010 to link some CTE classes with a post secondary program to help make a seamless transition for students from the classroom to the workplace.
The grant provided money for course development and implementation and professional development.
ADE programs include Associate in Arts for Elementary Education degree transfer and Child Development Associate credentials and meet most of the ten components of a Rigorous Program of Study.
These components include legislation and policies, partnerships, professional development, accountability, evaluation, guidance counseling and academic advisement, teaching and learning strategies and technical skills assessments.
TCHS administrators gave the education officials a walking tour of the school including program classrooms and occupational labs and buildings.
The officials said TCHS offered the highest range of academic and postsecondary opportunities for high school students which are not available in some large city areas.
More information on these programs is available from Woody Begay, director of CTE programs or Maria Goatcher, CDA and ECE instructor at (928) 283-1050.
